Advanced Placement Program

Benet Academy offers 24 Advanced Placement (AP) courses for students in grades 9 to 12. Academic qualifications and class achievement indicate the appropriate level of learning for each learner.

The AP program, administered by the College Board, enables students to take college-level courses and receive advanced placement and/or course credit in college on the basis of their performance on the culminating AP examinations administered each May.
All courses at Benet Academy are College Preparatory and provide appropriate readiness for college. AP courses are selected by students who seek to accelerate preparation for college-level work and build their self-confidence by engaging in first-year collegiate level work. AP courses may allow students to be more competitive for admission at highly selective colleges. Some colleges and universities will grant credit for AP courses, depending on the score a student earns on the national exam. Please be sure to review AP policy and placement according to your universities of interest. Grades in an AP course at Benet Academy are weighted in determining students’ Grade Point Averages (GPA).

A complete list of all Advanced Placement courses including course descriptions are included in the Curriculum Guide. Opportunities to enroll in AP classes are guided by course-specific prerequisites, which may include the following readiness indicators:
  • Critical thinking dispositions (including attitude, intellectual curiosity and work ethic)
  • Academic Grades
  • Counselor and teacher recommendation
Benet Academy offers the AP Capstone™ course sequence.  The AP Capstone program is a College Board program comprising two AP courses — AP Seminar and AP Research— and is designed to complement and enhance the discipline-specific study in other AP courses.
AP Seminar and AP Research engage students in independent research, collaborative teamwork, and communication skills. The courses cultivate curious, independent, and collaborative scholars and prepare our learners to make logical, evidence-based decisions.

The AP Capstone program recognizes the work across disciplines and can culminate in designation by the College Board. Students who earn scores of 3 or higher in AP Seminar and AP Research and on four additional AP Exams of their choosing receive the AP Capstone Diploma™. Students who earn scores of 3 or higher in AP Seminar and AP Research but not on four additional AP Exams receive the AP Seminar and Research Certificate™.
