CARE Program

The Center for Academic Redwing Enrichment is proud to offer multiple ways for incoming freshmen to connect to others students as they begin their high school story. Each course engages our newest Redwings in a curriculum that creates opportunities to be Benet ready academically, socially, and technologically. Courses will use group and individual learning activities, discussions, questions, and creative approaches to enrich learning environments. We will address important topics, including time management, prioritization, note-taking strategies, and high school academic expectations. We will also examine digital citizenship and ensure student devices are ready to support learning at Benet. Above all, your student will experience his/her first steps into the Benet Academy community and pave the way for their high school success.

Areas of Academic Interest

Strategic Technology for Learning
Learning with technology can support the work of students throughout their four years and beyond. Connect with note-taking, managing calendars, myBenet, and other exciting ways to leverage technology that leads to learning.

AP Skills
Incoming freshmen interested in pursuing Advanced Placement courses will have the opportunity to practice the skills needed for success in a range of AP courses in Computer Science, English, Social Studies, Math, and beyond. Not only designed for success in freshman AP courses, all students interested in enrolling in AP designated classes will learn to read the College Board site, master rubrics, AP acronyms, and planning for a four-year AP story.

Academy Readers
Academy Readers are committed to vocabulary building, reflective writing, and grammar enrichment. Academy Readers will engage in an enriched opportunity to play with words, practice with mentor sentences and writing passages, and effective communication through appropriate grammar skills.

Foundation of Leadership
Focus on the fundamentals of leading on teams - in the classroom and in game play. Throughout this course, opportunities to practice effective communication in public speaking and in engaging in group-based team sports will support development and skill readiness for participating in all classes. Managing new experiences, strategizing, and problem-solving, the range of exposure to foundational understandings of leadership will enrich the student experience.

Encounter
Deepening understanding of our faith life through Scripture and practice, our ENCOUNTER will prepare students to understand the participation in our rich spiritual life. All are welcome to prepare for the academic and personal encounter with our Catholic faith and Benedictine tradition.

Math Mindset
Math is an approach - a mindset, an engaged practice, a commitment to productive growth. Spend time engaging with a range of math experiences designed to focus on approach, problem-solving, and cultivating a growth mindset.
