Andrea "Andy" J. Basso, age 92, of Naperville
Andrea J. “Andy” Basso, age 92, a Naperville, IL resident since 1968, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his devoted family on Tuesday, August 27th, 2024.
 
He was the beloved husband of the late Joan Basso (née Ward), who preceded him in death in 2006. They were married in 1958. Andy was a loving father to Andrew (Debra) Basso, Barbara (Cindy) Basso, Carla (Andy) Bernard, and Raymond Basso (Joy Rockwell). He was an adored grandfather of Anna (Froi Nunez) Basso Nunez, Courtney (Sky) Mayhew, Matthew (Allyssa) Basso, and Gabrielle Bernard and a cherished great-grandfather of Brayden and Ryker Miller. Brother-in-law to Kathleen Ward, Mark (Mary Kay) Ward, and the late Gail Clancy and the late Mary Yusunas. Andy was a fond cousin, uncle, great-uncle, great-great uncle, and friend to many.
 
Andy was preceded in death by his loving parents Andrea and Anna Basso, and his beloved sisters Iole Basso and Gidia Fiaoni.
 
Andy grew up in Chicago’s South Side neighborhood of Burnside and attended St. Procopius Academy and College in Lisle. He received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from St. Ambrose College in Davenport, IA before serving in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. He began his career as an accountant with Dean’s Foods, eventually becoming a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and rising to Senior Manager. Following his retirement from Dean’s Foods in 1995, Andy discovered a new passion for teaching Water Aerobics. He earned certification in aquatic therapy for Multiple Sclerosis and Arthritis and spent 24 years inspiring and helping others before retiring again in 2019.
 
Andy was a longtime philanthropist. He was an active member of the SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Naperville. He served as a Eucharistic Minister, was an Oblate of St. Benedict, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Andy and his wife Joan were responsible for Tuesday Night BINGO at SS. Peter & Paul School for over 30 years. Andy was inducted into the SS. Peter & Paul School Hall of Fame for his dedication and contribution in 1994.
 
Most of all, Andy treasured time spent with his sisters, children, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. He loved good food, baking, bowling, dancing, and watching Chicago’s sports teams.
 
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 4th, and Thursday, September 5th, from 4 PM to 8 PM at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill Street, Naperville, IL 60540.
 
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 6th, at 11 AM at SS. Peter & Paul Church, 36 N. Ellsworth Street, Naperville, IL.
 
Interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, 87th Street & S. Hamlin Avenue, Evergreen Park, IL. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery on Friday at 1:30 PM. For cemetery information, please contact (708) 422-8720.
 
In place of flowers, donations in Andy’s memory may be made to a local charity of one’s choice.
