The Chess Team is comprised of 20+ players (Freshmen – Seniors), where all players will have the opportunity to compete in a number of 1-1 school vs. school after-school meets and several Saturday multi-school tournaments, beginning in October and continuing through January. Then, for the top 8 players (with substitutes), the chess season progresses on to IHSA Sectionals in early February and then culminates at the IHSA State Chess Championship in Peoria in mid-February.

Practices will start mid-September every Wednesday after school from 3-5pm in Mrs. Hassan’s Room (S119) and will run through mid-February.  Students interested in playing chess at Benet should listen/watch for upcoming announcements. 

We welcome students of all levels and even those who merely wish to play chess for fun but not compete. 

Meetings: 1x per week after school (~3:00-5:00 p.m.)
